Makin' a cake

I often get so caught up in the photography side of my business that I don't often talk about the cake side. Although I am not taking as many orders as I once was, I do still take the occasional order. I used to wonder why people charged so much money for custom cakes. I mean after all were talking flour, water, and sugar right?!?!! Little did I know what all making a custom cake entailed. I thought I would share with you the process involved with making one of my cakes. Forgive the grainy photos (they came from my cell phone) and the few missing steps. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I'm doing I get sidetracked and I completely forgot to snap some pics of a few parts. But just so you know when you ask for a custom cake, it's likely an all day event from the planning to the baking and decorating. I often get last minute calls asking if I can have a cake ready in a day or so. The answer plainly is NO! I am not HEB guys! I have 2 kids, lots of pictures to take and edit, a deployed husband, and a whole lotta NO extra time. So please don't be offended if I have to turn down a cake order, nothing personal, it's just alot of work so place your orders early. Because I limit the amount of cakes I will do in a single weekend, I tend to book up rather quickly! Click on the pictures to read the captions...

Liz & Darren get hitched!

From the second we met at starbucks to discuss wedding day details I knew Liz would be a fun bride! We started out at one of her bridesmaids houses to get some shots of her getting her hair done. They were enjoying mimosas and pizza for lunch. Yes, the bridal lunch of champions! From there we headed to the country club to get some of the girls getting ready and the groomsmen out on the greens. I had so much fun with the girls and the wedding was beautiful! These 2 are quite obviously in love and I have no doubt that they will live happily ever after. Thank you guys for letting me capture all of your wedding memories!

Maddy & Company!

I can't believe that miss Maddy is already 9 months old! I took her newborn pictures and I promise you that she has ALWAYS been this cute! She brought her big brother and sister along for this shoot and they're pretty much ALL adorable! I can already tell that mommy & daddy will have their hands full when these gorgeous 3 hit the teenage dating years! lol I love how each of their very different little personalities shine through their pictures! Can't wait to see these goobers again in a few weeks for family pictures!

and just when you thought things couldn't get much cuter, here come Cody & Annie to push this session into an overall adorableness overload! I just LOVE them all and can't wait to share their Christmas cards with you later. (I'll let mom get them sent out first!)

Dashing Dominic

Dominic was one of the good looking kiddos in my earlier post of the BIG happy family. His mom approached me at the family shoot and asked if I might be willing to take some head shots and other modeling poses of Dominic to use for an upcoming competition. I was really excited about this because A. I NEVER get to photograph boys B. I was pretty convinced from the get go that Dominic was going to make it to the big time, become a famous model, and hire me as his personal traveling photographer. ;) Kidding. Well kind of. When Dom & his mom met up with me I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not around boys very often! lol But, he was well behaved, cooperative, and absolutely adorable! I had no doubts that he would go far with this modeling thing! We location hopped a bit and got a ton of great shots of his many expressions! I was also super excited to hear from his mother today that he did great in his competition and was selected to go on to L.A.! Congrats Dom, don't forget me when you're famous! Yes, yes another big share, but did I mention that this child is super star material!??!?!

Here comes the bride

A few posts back, you got to see the absolutely gorgeous bride Shawna. Here are a few from her wedding. What a HUGE wedding party! You guys were so much fun! I love it when clients become friends! Hope to see you guys again soon.

Lailah Bug

Lailah's mommy called me up last month and wanted to set up a first birthday session for her sweet little darling. Lailah was stingy with her smiles at first but once she saw the cake she was a happy camper! The next week we met again for some more pictures of this adorable little girl and she was so happy and cooperative! This is going to be a gynormous share but it's really 2 sessions in one post and she's just too cute and I can't narrow it down! Thanks for letting me spend so much time with your sweet little "Lailah Bug"!

Here's the invitations I whipped up for Lailah's party front & back ( I removed all personal info as always)

and here are some more from her take 2 session: I LOVE her little dress. It's extra special because her great grandma made it for Lailah's mommy when she was her age!
