The big news!

If you haven't already heard, my photographer pal Mari Annelise of the fabulous Mari Annelise Photography and I will be sharing a studio in the near future! Thought I would fill everyone in on a few details surrounding this awesome news! The studio will be located in a condo we will be renting near downtown midland. It will be available by appointment only. It is not a commercially zoned area so we won't have full blown hours of operation or be able to have large crowds coming in and out. So what exactly will the studio be used for you may be asking. Well, the large one bedroom will be mainly devoted to our many boudoir clients. It will be decorated in very elegant colors & fixtures. The living room/seating area will be used as a sort of waiting room. It will also have backdrops and studio type stuff set up for mini sessions and more traditional studio work. The kitchen will be used for my cake bakin' antics! I'm super excited to have a place outside of my own kitchen to store all of my pans, bake, and refrigerate cakes! The dining room will be set up as a consulting/meeting area so you guys don't have to meet us at starbucks anymore! We also have a small back yard/patio that will be landscaped and used for some quick outdoor shots. If you've met us or have seen our work, you know that our style is very similar. Mari in fact often jokes that we "share a brain"! lol We are bright and colorful souls so you can bet that the studio space will reflect that same fun spirited colorful fun! Don't worry, we won't restrict ourselves to the studio. We will still be up for all of our usual zany location hopping! We are so grateful to my parents for all their help with this big move, our amazing clients/friends, and most of all God for allowing all of these blessings in our lives! The condo is currently under renovations but will soon be ready to roll so expect lots of pictures of the progress! We are hoping to be up and running by early/mid November!

Mari & I outside the new studio space. We didn't want to let you inside just yet because with all the bathroom renovations, it's a dusty crazy mess in there!

In the bedroom. These old yellow church pews will be the heart of the studio seating area! You can bet they will travel as props from time to time too! What a find!

Please keep us in your prayers that God will continue to bless us with our new endeavors. If we and our clients enjoy the studio like we are hoping, we will be looking for a more permanent commercial location in the near future!

Editing machine!

Lately I've been an editing machine and before I became a photographer I didn't necessarily understand what all that entailed. I would have Payton's picture taken when she was younger and wonder why in the world I couldn't have them right then and there! I could give you your images right out of the camera but truthfully, the power of digital enhancement is worth the wait! When you're paying for your sitting fee, my job doesn't end when our 1 hour session is over. When I get home, I take the images from my camera(s) and upload them to my computer. I then quickly sift through them to select the best shots from the session. I carefully weed out all photos that are blurry, where you may have closed your eyes, I get rid of any underexposed or over exposed images and then back all of the "good" images onto an external hard drive. All images I shoot come out of my camera in RAW format. That is it cannot be viewed by any normal web browser just like that. It must be converted to a more universal file type, the JPEG. EACH image must be converted. Now it's time to make some magic! I select my first photo for editing and open it.

This is an exact image from a recent session. Just as it came out of my camera after being converted. By the time I get to this step, I've likely spent about an hour sorting through the images.

The first thing I do is rotate the image because I just felt that the adorable subjects were better balanced at this angle. I also choose to crop this a tiny bit to put more focus on their faces. Next, because the shot was taken in a shady area, I adjust my white balance so that the colors are warmer and more natural. I experiment a while with different tweaks until I get it just right.

You may have noticed before in the above images that Cody (the silly boy) had some very boy like scratches along the left side of his face near his eye. I think they're cute and reveal something about that time in his life but sometimes Mom's don't really feel the same way. lol So I patch out that area so that it is smoother and looks like the scratch never happened. I also patch the small area under Maddy's (the baby) nose and on her cheek because she had a runny nose that showed up in some of the photos.

finally, I increased the vibrancy of the grass and brightened their cute little faces so they really pop! & this is the final image that you see in your gallery & prints!

But we don't stop there! When I crop & edit an image for your gallery, it's always in 4x6 format. So when you make your final selections and choose sizes larger (or smaller) than a 4x6, I must reopen the image and reformat it to the desired size. So as you can see I put hours into hunting for props & locations, an hour or more with fabulous YOU, then hours making fabulous you even MORE fabulous! So truth be told, you're paying for HOURS of work when you schedule a session for one low price! ;)

Blushing Bride

When I met Shawna for the first time in August to discuss the details of her upcoming wedding, I knew she was going to be the bride of my dreams. The bride of any photographers dreams really. Besides the fact that she is absolutely stunning, she has one of those personalities that you just KNOW you're going to love from the second you meet her. She's super sweet and so laid back so photographing her was like taking candy from a baby. Unless that baby is Taylor of course because my sweet little angel likes her lollipops and has a kung fu death grip on those bad boys. The point is, she was easy to photograph! lol Shawna had no problem at all when I suggested 3 different locations for her bridals. She & her entourage that included her sisters, mother, & best friend happily drove across town in order to capture the perfect images! Now that I finally got her married off, I can post her bridals so you can see for yourself what an incredibly gorgeous bride she made. Be on the lookout for wedding photos in the near future!

Karla & Jaime

So, I've abandoned all fantasies of catching up on my blog. Instead, I'm going to try to keep fairly current at least! lol

If you didn't know it, I was born in Del Rio, Texas. In fact, all of my father's side of the family still lives there. I don't visit as often as I should but I was ecstatic when my beautiful cousin Karla informed me that she was getting married and wanted lil' ole ME to be her photographer. So last month, I made the 4 hour drive to Del Rio to meet the lucky guy and snap some engagements of them. Karla and I are only like a month apart and grew up very close. We used to love to spend summers together so getting to hang out was an added bonus to doing the job I love so much! Not to mention Jaime is just perfectly charming and wonderful in every way. I'm so happy for these 2 good lookin' kids and can't wait for the big day! What a gorgeous bride you will make my dear! <3>

The lovely Nina!

When Nina called and said she wanted me to photograph her wedding and bridal portraits I was ecstatic! I've known Nina a few years and I was so glad to be a part of her special day. Even more excited that she finally found her prince charming! We took these back in July and had a great time. Her mom came to help us out with all the fluffing of the dress and hair and what not too. I had offered to help Nina with her makeup but when she arrived she looked so beautiful I assumed she had already done her makeup. As we got to shooting, she made a comment asking if I had forgotten about makeup. "no, it's in my car, I assumed you didn't need help anymore since you already have it done". I died of shock when she responded. "I don't have any makeup on" she said. Whhhhhhhhhhhat!??! You mean to tell me you are just that beautiful naturally!?!?! That's right, this gorgeous bride doesn't have a stitch of makeup on in her bridals and looks fantastic!

Khloey turns ONE!

I was super excited to meet little miss Khloey & her sweet parents for her first birthday shoot. We started out with some family pics and some traditional portraits before moving on to her cake smashing fun! She was such a sweetie pie! Oddly cooperative for a 1 year old! We got some great shots of that precious smile of hers. I hope to see them again to see how this little darling grows.
Khloey wasn't too sure about her cake at first but with a little help from mom finally dug in! (cake also by ME)

Black & White Affair

It's no secret, I'm a sucker for charity work so when my good friend Ashlee of the fabulous LaFuget jewelry (LIKE her on facebook!)

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Midland-TX/LaFuget-Jewelry/90631598620)

called me up and asked if I would like to help out with the 2nd annual black & white affair of course I said yes! I helped out a bit last year and it was so much fun I couldn't wait to be involved again this year. I got to work alongside the incredibly talented Mr. Benjamin Blackketter to photograph some of the models. Ben captured some fabulous images of the models to be used for advertising purposes and when he was done I took them out to do some fun shots to display at the show and offered free mini sessions to all participating models as a thank you for their volunteer services. I was a tad nervous because I had never done anything like this before. I mostly photograph children and weddings so fashion stuff is NOT something I'm used to but I had an absolute blast and would love to do it again! Here are some of my favorite shots from the various shoots I did pre-event.

huge share I know but there were just waaaaaaay too many to choose from! I tried to upload some from the show too but blogger is just DONE with this post today apparently! I have so much to catch up on that it BETTER start workin'! lol
